The Australian Airports Association (AAA) has welcomed its two newest Directors at this week’s Board meeting.
Simon McPhee, Chief Corporate Services Officer & General Counsel at Perth Airport, has joined the Board as an appointed Director, while Katie Cooper, Chief Executive Officer at Launceston Airport, has taken up a member-elected position representing the Large Airport category.
AAA Chair Kym Meys said both appointees were highly regarded aviation leaders who would bring valuable experience and perspective to the Board.
“The AAA is delighted to formally welcome Simon McPhee and Katie Cooper to the Board. Both bring significant industry knowledge and experience, and will make an important contribution to the Association and its work on behalf of airports across Australia,” Ms Meys said.
“Simon brings considerable governance, legal and regulatory expertise, together with a deep understanding of the complex environment in which airports operate.
“Katie brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across aviation, infrastructure and transport, along with a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing airports of all sizes.
“Katie joins the Board following the departure of Chris Mills, who stepped down after taking up a new role. We thank Chris for his commitment and contribution to the Association and wish him every
success in his new position.”
Mr McPhee said he was looking forward to contributing to the AAA Board and working with industry and government.
“As a member of the AAA Board, I look forward to working collaboratively with industry and government to strengthen Australia's aviation sector, support tourism and trade, drive economic
growth and keep Australia connected,” he said.
"I am pleased to represent the aviation industry at a time of significant growth and opportunity."
Ms Cooper said she was honoured to join the Board and bring the perspective of regional communities and airports to the national conversation.
“I'm honoured to join the AAA Board and represent the interests of regional communities that rely on strong aviation connections to access opportunities, services and markets across Australia,” she said.
“Airports like Launceston play a vital role in supporting economic growth, tourism and social connectivity, and I'm pleased to help ensure those perspectives are part of the national conversation."
