Almost one and a half million people made their way through Launceston Airport in the 2026 Financial year, marking the busiest financial year on record for the airport.
A total of 1,478,925 passengers flew in and out of the airport across the financial year, representing a 3 per cent increase on the 2025 Financial Year.
Across the 12-month period, monthly records were broken on eight occasions with January the busiest month in the airport’s history with a total of 160,791 travellers.
Despite airline capacity reductions, overall passenger numbers continued to climb with travellers being re-accommodated on other services.
Link Airways’ commencement of direct services to Canberra in May added to the record numbers with solid demand for the new route.
Launceston Airport CEO Katie Cooper said the airport played a vital role in supporting Tasmanian tourism.
“More than 90 per cent of travellers arrive into Tasmania via air, and for a significant number of those Launceston Airport is their first and last impression of Tasmania," she said.
“That’s why we’ve worked so hard across the year redeveloping our Departures Hall, to make sure the look, feel, taste and experience here at Launceston Airport is truly Tasmanian.
“A busy arrivals hall here translates to more feet on trails, more heads on pillows and more bums on seats at restaurants in our region and across the state.
“Our success is deeply intertwined with the states, with tourism contributing more than $4.5 billion to Tasmania’s GSP annually, supporting more than 50,000 jobs.
“We're building to accommodate future growth with our Departures Gate project in full swing, ensuring Launceston Airport has the infrastructure to support the demand we're seeing today, and the growth we expect tomorrow."
