Welcoming the accolade, Paul Hodgen, General Manager Launceston Airport said the award recognises the work the airport, as the tourism gateway to northern Tasmania, had undertaken to enhance the visitor experience for passengers and guests.
“This is well deserved recognition for the significant investment made in the past year by Launceston Airport in creating a greater ‘sense of place’, improved ambience and an enhanced visitor experience within the terminal,” said Mr Hodgen.
“Our small team at Launceston Airport has worked incredibly hard to ensure the airport reflects all that is good about ‘Brand Tasmania’ and underlines the importance of getting that first impression just right.”
“Annually we have 1.35 million passengers, plus many more guests who come to meet and greet and farewell their family and friends.”
“All these passengers and guests can now arrive and depart with a strong connection to Launceston and the northern Tasmanian region.”
A second security screening X-Ray has now commenced operation, and will be manned during forecast peak periods. Early in the new year a large scale digital display, co-funded by the Australian Government, is due to be installed in the Launceston Airport arrivals hall to further promote tourism dispersal within the region.
Launceston currently holds the title of the Australian Airport Association’s ‘Major Airport of the Year’.
