Launceston Airport will shortly commence major Runway Overlay Project works. The routine maintenance works involve the installation of an asphalt overlay to the runway surface in order to maintain the runway’s integrity, safety and functional performance.
Paul Hodgen, General Manager Launceston Airport, said the $11 million maintenance project has been on the agenda for some time with planning and preparatory works underway for more than 12 months.”
“The project will be undertaken in two stages with the overlay component scheduled from 13 February - 29 March 2015. The remaining stage of the project including line marking and grooving is scheduled to be completed by mid-year, subject to favourable weather conditions.”
“We are doing everything we can to minimise the impact on our customers and the local community with works scheduled during the night to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible.”
“Flights may experience some minor retiming as a result, so passengers are encouraged to contact their airline for the latest flight information during this time,” said Mr Hodgen.
Launceston Airport is continuing to transform and invest in airfield safety and improved terminal facilities with a record capital investment program scheduled for 2015.
