Launceston Airport has unveiled its two million dollar terminal reconfiguration, completely transforming the way travellers use the airport.
Passengers will now have more time to sit back, relax and enjoy the airport’s dining and retail offering right up until boarding, thanks to a re-zoning of the terminal.
The changes revealed today incorporate a new layout and additional toilet and shower facilities in the check-in hall, which builds on the airport’s recent transformation that includes offering more local produce, enhanced seating and free Wi-Fi and charging stations.
General Manager Launceston Airport, Paul Hodgen, said the terminal reconfiguration will improve the traveller experience and make boarding more efficient, eliminating that last minute dash to the gate.
“I’m pleased to reveal the new arrangements which now incorporate a re-orientated screening facility located immediately after check-in. This will allow travellers to take full advantage of our award-winning dining and retail offering after passing through security, reducing some of the stress of travel and making the whole process more relaxing and enjoyable,” said Mr Hodgen.
“Our current outlets such as the James Boag’s Bar & Restaurant and The Launceston Store showcase Tasmania’s finest produce and gifts, and we’re proud to be able to give our travellers more time to experience the very best of what Tasmania has to offer.
“Recognising that moments matter, the changes also allow non-travellers to accompany their loved ones through security, which will give passengers more time to say farewell. The reconfiguration also enables non-travellers to greet arriving passengers’ right at the gate.”
Mr Hodgen said the changes unveiled today have set the airport up for future growth.
“Launceston Airport’s recent investment in additional X-ray equipment allows the airport to accommodate further growth, creating a better flow during scheduled peak periods,” said Mr Hodgen.
“Soon we will install enhanced flight departure display screens plus a quirky coffee van in the Arrivals Hall.
“It is good to see our August passenger traffic statistics up by 2 per cent on the same time last year, and it’s certainly great to be able to deliver a much enhanced customer experience to all those using our facilities,” said Mr Hodgen.
Launceston Airport partnered with Launceston-based firm Vos Construction to deliver the seven-month works program.
