Launceston Airport achieves record 1.28m passengers in 2013/14

Launceston Airport has achieved 5 per cent passenger growth for 2013/2014, boosting total passengers to a record 1.28 million and outperforming the national domestic air travel trend.

Launceston Airport General Manager, Mr Paul Hodgen said the 2013/14 year was a significant one.

“Our 1.28 million passenger record is underpinned by continued strong investment in Launceston Airport’s facilities throughout the year, for the benefit of our airlines and passengers” said Mr Hodgen.

“Interestingly, nearly 90 per cent of people travelling to Tasmania do so by air.  This is significant as it highlights the important role that aviation plays in Tasmania’s tourism industry and economic development generally.”

“It’s also a situation which state government policy needs to adequately reflect.  We look forward to working with the state government to level the playing field for the aviation industry to ensure Tasmania benefits from what the industry brings to the state.”

“In the meantime, we will continue to upgrade and expand facilities at Launceston Airport to deliver the best customer experience we can for our passengers.  We’ve commenced work on a new airport entry road as well as improving car parking facilities, including a new under cover area.  Works are progressing well and are on schedule to open before the peak summer period.”
