    Royal Flying Doctor Service

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is the first, largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation in the world.

Using the latest in aviation, communication and medical technology, RFDS bring an extensive healthcare network to those who live, work and travel throughout regional Australia and the vast Australian Outback. Without the comprehensive health service that RFDS provide, much of the Outback would be virtually uninhabitable.

The RFDS South Eastern Section is responsible for delivering medical services to rural and regional NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, south west Queensland and northern South Australia.

While emergency aeromedical retrieval remains our primary focus, RFDS also provide an extensive network of comprehensive primary healthcare services.

RFDS operate bases at Broken Hill, Dubbo, Bankstown, Mascot, Essendon and Launceston.

RFDS employ a total of 189 staff, including 35 doctors, 21 nurses, seven medical specialists, one dentist, 54 pilots, 24 engineers, two radio staff and various administrative and fundraising staff.

Although RFDS receive some government funding, RFDS must also rely on the generosity of corporations, organisations and individuals to help us replace our aircraft and purchase medical supplies and vital life-saving equipment.
